The Parlor
I saved this one for last because I was the most excited about it. I love to entertain so a cozy sitting room is a non-negotiable. My formula for a good sitting room is two identical chairs plus a fun piece of furniture. For you I was able to keep that formula and add in more than one feature piece. I kept in mind your wish list for light and airy and bookcases while also bringing in some flavor and breathe life into your home.
Here are my ideas for The Parlor:
Repaint the lower half of the walls and the baseboards Sherwin Williams Retreat
Add this wallpaper from the top of the chair rail to the ceiling all the way around the room
Repaint the chair rail Sherwin Williams Aesthetic White
Add crown molding and paint that Sherwin Williams Aesthetic White
Bookshelves along the back wall painted Sherwin Williams Retreat
I wasn’t able to see the wall with the windows on it but my recommendation would be to actually place the vignette on that wall and not between the bookshelves as its shown below
If you take my recommendation this would allow for a full wall of bookcases if you want more of a reading room/library feel
Remove the door from this room to the kitchen and just have it be a cased opening painted the same Aesthetic White as the other trim items
Add a chaise like this one to the corner nook
Add a hanging light fixture over the chaise - I have this one from Amazon and I love the warm light it gives off AND it’s just a plug in so no electricity work is needed
I found these cute wingback chairs to go with the color scheme but any two cozy chairs you can curl up in will work here
Here is the end table I used in the remodel
Throw down this rug large enough to leave just about 18” of space between the baseboards and the end of the rug
Lastly I would add in some ivory curtains to that unseen wall - you’ve probably heard the rules about curtains but make sure you’re getting curtains with either a rod pocket or hook top curtains - no grommets please and hang the rod about 2.5” from the ceiling
I can’t thank you enough for allowing me to be part of your home. Getting to redesign homes is my passion and I feel incredibly blessed every day I get to do it for work. I hope you love everything and are able to use some of these ideas to make your house your favorite place to be.
